Mark 16:1-8
If you're looking for an inspiring Easter text, Mark's gospel doesn't bring it. After cautions by Jesus to go and tell no one about their healing and yet the healed persons go and tell everybody they can find. At the end the man in linen tells the women to go and tell everyone and they tell no one about this greatest miracle.
Its kind of like the church. How often have you told someone the good news of Jesus? Did you just this past week? This past month? Maybe this past year? No? Never? We have become so afraid of offending someone we don't know how to share the most moving and spiritual parts of our lives with each other. This is what Easter is about. Sharing our encounters with Jesus.
These next few weeks of Easter tide we will delve deeper and deeper into this. For today I want us to think on how we share good news. This is why our gospels are entitled the Good News according to... We have our own good news to share.
The other day we had a Maple Fest at school. There were presenters from all over the community and I ran into a neighbor from years ago. We talked about where we were and what we were doing and I shared I'm a priest at St. Peter's. The person shared about challenges they have had in life and where they have found healing the most. It was good news they shared.
Sometimes all people need is the invitation. Maybe starting with deeply listening instead of listening to respond. Or sharing where we go to church. Or sharing we have been in a similar situation and this is where I found healing. Or when it is the hardest part of life and all responses seem to fade to dust, just sitting and being with someone is good news.
The good news for us this Sunday is Christ is alive! Death is not the end, but a beginning. Let us walk boldly and share the good news of healing with a world in need of it.
