Luke 10:38-42
Mary or Martha, who is the better, a one-up-man-ship game. This is not the reading. I can picture Jesus laughing, like an old friend, a brother. It's not a who wins by doing or not doing. It's about those times we have in our lives when we are Mary or times when we are Martha, or maybe we are Jesus, the peacemaker for the sisters. Where do you stand right now?
Rest in the story, read it a few times, imagine who you identify with the most. Then see what questions bubble up. Maybe even what images come. We are meant to learn from this, neither is bad or good, it may just help us with either way of being. It is good to recognize which we might be, we may not have even thought of it. Letting ourselves into the story helps us with where we are now.
There have been books done about this even, to show the spiritual gifts and how we may get lost in being either woman. Give yourself a gift today slow down and read this three times, slowly https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Luke+10%3A38-42&version=NRSV.
Find who you are in it and feel the feelings which come up. Allow the story to teach you, it will deepen your experience. Amen.
