Spared

We ask to be spared from difficulty,
  it is not what happens.
The storm arrives, the waves come
  and we feel cheated.
It is not our goodness which determines
  ease, or our own sin.
It is life lived, we do not exist
  in a bubble, protected.
We are alive, we have decisions
  just as does everyone.
Jesus asked for the cup to
  be removed and yet,
Jesus followed the way of the cross,
  right down to suffering.
We are not alone in this choice,
  we are not alone at all.
We have to care, have to hope
  because we are human.
Woven into the fabric of family,
  connection is important.
Don't leave it at the side of the
  road, embrace it and go.
