Did we forget, did we leave her somewhere?
Or have the images numbed us, to what is
A human response of empathy, feeling
Another's pain. In the gospels it is the
Immediate response of Jesus to the crowds.
To feed them, care for the sick, bring healing.
Yet somewhere we have lost this Spirit,
Which moves us beyond ourselves and puts
Our soul into another human being. It
Reaches far beyond what we can know.
We have to feel it, to embody another's
Pain and to know they are human just as
We are. Can we find her once again
Before it is too late to know her graces.
The gifts found in taking another's hand.
