Protection

The poor, needy, oppressed

  thought of first

    defended by the powerful

      raised up and cared for

The psalmist prays for it

  sees it as the goal

    like the rain quenching

      dry earth

Encouraging growth

  connection with roots

    in the soil

      growing deep

Allowed to flourish

  not kept, taxed

    fined, burdened

      refused food or a place to sleep

Pray for the rain

  for those who seek

    silently to help

      while we forget

Dreaming the dreams 

  of our own

    protection

      forgotten prayers
