Advent light

You start the journey,
  unsure where you will be taken,
    in silence you sit, emptying

At first the light seems far,
  it can never be reached,
    always out of the grasp

Yet as you go, you see it,
  glimpses caught amongst the trees,
    thoughts given up, people met

Some unexpected turn,
  and you think you are lost,
    gone away, yet somehow

The light shines through,
  even though you were in the
    wrong direction, gone

Finally you stand in its light,
  you think you have finally gone,
    as far as you can go

Suddenly, it has gone,
  another journey to make,
    another road to trod

You know it is worth the road,
  winding, losing, hard
    found, hope, love
