Warring

The years have taken their toll
All they have known is war
Getting back, paying retribution
As if it brings back anyone
Diminishing one another
To dust and to dust
No side wins, no justice
Comes in the empty arms
Of violence and yet
We are wooed over and over again
To take up arms, to stand our ground
And the tears fall and we keep
Tearing life apart
There is no good life to be had
Yet there have been those
Who have dared to stand on the
Precipice of hope, dared to plant
The seeds of reconciliation
Dared to say it is enough
Then there are those who have
Won by default because the
Men are finally gone
How long will it take
Til we wake up to the longing
Letting go of the wrongs
In order to find the precious
Pearls of peace
