Will there be water here?
Enough to live on to sustain us?
Will there be food there?
How will we find enough to eat so we don't die?
The desert is a wandering place,
a place where there is no ground
and we are led astray by mirages of plenty,
only to find they don't exist.
Because the only true thing is our hunger and thirsting,
yearning to be enough and finding our own frailty.
Yet the desert taught us, taught us to trust
in something more than ourselves.
To have faith in the signs of storms coming,
to see where true water comes from.
To take shelter in what guides us,
A nebulous pillar of a cloud.
Intangible and yet our guide and reminder
that we cannot make the desert on our own.
We have to have faith and direction.
