Those who have walked in darkness have seen a great light.
Those who have lived in a land of deep darkness--
on them the light has shined (Isaiah 9:2b)
We walk in darkness for a time,
a land apart and away from
all who care.
Set adrift on our own isolated
from the time or culture
in a shell because we are drawn
in by violence, by loss of our freedom.
We live in fear hiding out waiting,
anticipating our doom.
Praying for a piece of light to shine
through. It does come
in words, in touch, in isolated
shards of broken rays.
Because deep darkness only
dissipates with time.
The dawning of a new age.
We wait with anticipation
reading the words
and hoping for the
light to reach beyond
the violent pit in which we are laid.
Treasuring lighter days,
peaceful touch,
God's hand.
