"It will not be so among you; but whoever wishes to be great among you must be your servant, and whoever wishes to be first among you must be your slave; just as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life a ransom for many." Matthew 20:26-28
As I watched some of the new commercials for Christmas yesterday I was appalled. The theme of hurrying through the Thanksgiving dinner and not visiting with those around you, but getting to the store for the next deal was evident. It has started already and I think we forget we are to treasure the time we have with others.
The true theme of giving at Christmas is in the verse today from Matthew. When we give to others of ourselves, time, or treasure there is a real connection with being a servant. What is life giving this season? I don't think it is in rushing off to the store and ignoring our friends and family. Take the time to think of these things this advent season.
