Blessing the dust

Palms, dried, burned
  gone, oil to renew,
Sticky, marking
  all who submit.
Dust blessed then
  given out, a
Smudge, relation
  grows, knowing
We weren't the only
  ones to mark.
Remember the
  ancient ones.
Sackcloth, ashes,
  to furnace and
Wrong, forgotten
  repentance.
What have we done
  or not done.
