Yesterday

It seems, not long ago, you used to burst with love
Your little body trembling, so happy, full of it to the brim
It came out of your very soul, and every so often I glimpse
Again that little girl or boy, the trust you have in family
Makes it so some days, but with growing older it is lost
The child like abandon love you gave, there are ways
You make your separateness known in rolling eyes and
Angry looks, growing up discovering who you are and
Knowing you have safe ground to do so, testing your limits
There are days I miss the wild abandon, bursting sweetly
On your face and I treasure the days you give it once again
Grow, fly, test, I am always here through your trying, Mom
