Pictures show us a place you went to long ago
Such a far shore and yet you adapted, listening
To the land around you, canoeing down their rivers
Being at the barracks and having a pet monkey
And the pinup mom was jealous of in the middle
When your mind went because of the Parkinson's
Mom called, "quick come save them," you were
Cutting them to pieces, this other life so far from us
I don't think we ever know what that sacrifice meant
Yet it shaped the person you were to us, we have
Found those ways to find home, even when far away
