Broken bread

Taken across the divides so great to stand hand in hand
The bread broken and received by all bringing is into
The whole human family, loved and broken yet all we
Receive is mended together, breaking down the barriers
Of language, culture, pounding within the heart as
The drum beat carries inside, not to be silenced by
Leaving, more fully there broken against the fabric
Of our relatedness in the beat that goes on inside us
Carried into the world to be given and broken again
And again, multiplying in the strength of its pieces
Because it cannot be broken down because it gives,
Echoed life given and reborn throughout eternity
