Drawn in deeper and deeper to lands far away,
To people who are different and on the shore we
Learn something about human nature, about our
Fears, about what is hardest, about what we share.
History does not make its mark on the heart
Like a story told well, we share it in community
It breaks over us with a truth for today not a
Frozen thing long forgotten with no meaning.
Sometimes the closer it hits home the more we
Would like to hold it out there away from us.
Because discovering what might be inside us
Is not for the faint of heart and truth stands at
The door waiting for us to listen and not forget.
