Ablaze

The fire chokes, it smells hot, chemical
the sun blazes orange, take warning
Flames leap, lick, dance, you can see it
the smoke rises against the lights
Showing shade and dark, light billowing
  over us, over the neighborhood
The protective mother wakes because
the smell is wrong, off pacing
Checking children's rooms, texting
  daughter, just to make sure
The orange light rises in the east, dawn
trying to make out where flames
Licked, but there is only black shell
and a guess in the morning light
A guess, when in the night you could
see the blaze and smoke rising
